(We are calling Daughter Slocombe "Martha" for lack of a better name, 'In the Wyoming & Lackawanna Valleys Pennsylvania, Volume 1, listed her name printed in the letter to William Harvey as Martha) Martha Slocum - Married - Joseph Gilbert Joseph Gilbert was the son of John and Winifred (Rossiter-Combe) Gilbert. Winifred married first Joseph Combe of Bridgwater, Somerset, England. Winifred was John Gilberts 3rd Wife. Children: 1)Mary Gilbert, born 1621 2) Giles Gilbert, born 1627-died 1717 3) Joseph Gilbert, born abt. 1629 - married Dau. Slocum (Martha?) --- Just a thought: was the Slo left off of the name Combe? English Parish Record: Anthony Combe of Cheddar, Somerset, England: 1608- son born of Anthony Combe of Cheddar. --- Could Anthony Combe(Slo Combe) be the brother of Joseph Combe? ---Both families Gilbert - Slocombe settled in Taunton, Massachusetts at the same time (1637). ---Interesting fact: Giles Gilbert of Taunton, Massachusetts is given the estate of George Chute of New Jersey, and Giles Gilbert puts this piece of land in the hands of John Slocum of New Jersey, (the son of Giles of Portsmouth). It becomes obvious that they not only new each other but were family. March 31, 1679 - Letters of administration on the estate of George Chute, late of the County of Midleton and Shrewsbury dec'd, whose nearest of kin and lawful heir is Giles Gilbert of Taunton, New England, granted to John Slocum.
